Tour de France comes to the region in 2014 - your chance to be sure of a place to stay!
Next year the British stretch of the Tour de France ("Grand Départ") begins in Yorkshire and the second stage passes through Langsett in the south west of the Penistone region. Organisers are expecting that more than 3 million people will attend the event in Britain and a high demand for holiday accommodation is anticipated. Penistone - the town and its history
Penistone can be dated back to 1066 and is listed in the Domesday Book. Several pre-19th Century buildings still survive, the oldest being the Grade I listed mediaeval parish church, Saint John the Baptist Church; the White Hart pub in the town dates from 1377 and the secondary school, established in 1342 is said to be one of the odlest in the country. The Penistone landscape
Penistone is located at the foot of the Pennines and is surrounded by beautiful and historic landscape which is well worth exploring on the ground. There's plenty of unbuilt, open countryside such as the moors at Langsett where you can walk for hours and not meet anyone. There are several reservoirs & woodland in the area offering tranquil retreats and spectacular views.
