The Museum was acquired in 1982 and was set up as The South Yorkshire Fire Service Historical Society. It opened in 1983 and has grown and grown year by year. Now with over 30,000 exhibits and 29 display rooms and not forgetting many more exhibits and vehicles currently in storage ready to be displayed we are still getting bigger and bigger.

The mission of the Fire & Police Museum at Sheffield is To recognize and preserve the heritage of the Emergency Services and its contribution to the community. To promote education of fire and life safety.
Our vision is to become a centre of National Importance for the Heritage of the UK's Emergency Services. Reach capacity for museum visitors; become a destination site for tourism in Yorkshire and to be locally and nationally recognized for the quality of our exhibits.
